We always recommend checking with your embassy, a clearing agent in Lesotho or the authorities in Lesotho to ensure you have up to date information on the rules and regulations. The information here is for guidance purposes only and should not be used as hard and fast rules.

As prescribed by the law, every import of goods into Lesotho must be declared and given proper Customs clearance. Failure to declare goods is an offence which attracts penalties equivalent to three times the value of the goods illegally imported.
To facilitate clearance of the vehicles the owners of vehicles should bring along the following documents:

  1. Bill of entry
  2. Name of Clearing Agent involved in the clearance
  3. Vehicle registration certificate/blue card
  4. Invoice or copy thereof

The Customs State Warehouse is located on Motsoene Road, Maseru Industrial Area in the District of Maseru.

For those who have are not sure whether their vehicles followed proper procedures, you can contact the nearest border posts or LRA offices. The LRA officers will check for them if the vehicles were properly processed. They will be required to provide the following information:

  1. Name of importer if different from the current owner
  2. Contact details
  3. Vehicle engine number
  4. Vehicle Chassis number
  5. Date of importation especially the year of importation
