Cayman Islands Vehicle Import Regulations

We have weekly sailings from the UK with a transit time of 26 days to Cayman Islands. Below paperwork must be present for vehicle clearance namely:-

  1. Original Export Certificate
  2. Original Bill of Lading
  3. Proof of Insurance
  4. Original Commercial Invoice

Vehicle Insurance to get the vehicle registered with the DVDL in the Cayman Islands A customs broker is recommended and we can provide contacts of customs brokers to assist you clear your car as the process can be lengthy. Once the car has landed in Cayman duty which ranges between 29.5%-42% depending on the value of your car, see below, plus a one-time Environmental Disposal Fee; ranging from $250-$1,250 would also need to be payable. The duty rates for car imports into Cayman Island are as follows:

  • Up to $12,000.00 c.i.f. (used cars only) 29.5% and environmental fee $1,000.00 and waste handling fee $250.00
  • Up to $20,000 c.i.f. value 29.5%
  • Between $20,001 and $25,000 c.i.f. value 32%
  • Between $25,001 and $30,000 c.i.f. value 37%
  • More than $30,000 c.i.f. value 42%
